Saturday morning I was taking my time getting out of bed and Savannah was being such a good big sister and made all the kids some Instant Breakfast chocolate milk. (This is normal for school mornings but not Saturday.) She included Tanner in that menu. She poured him his soy milk but failed to realize that the instant breakfast chocolate mix has powdered milk in it. Jon and I, when we make choc. milk for TJ, make it with NesQuik. Both yellow containers with blue lids.
TJ, oblivious to all of that, drinks his choc. milk and then started to have throat issues. I think it was mostly itchy but getting mucus-y. I don't believe it was bad enough to start swelling shut. Seeing as how I was having my bowl of cereal, (and also oblivious to the mistake) I was multi-tasking and checking email when TJ came to me. He said, "Mommy, my throat hurts. I was trying to get a drink of water but my throat keeps distracting me." It was from there that I had to play detective and got it all sorted out. After a dose of Zyrtec and several sneezing fits he was fine...no more distracting.

Multi-Subject Catch-Up Post. My "Prepologies"
(Prepology=apologize in advance)
Wow, I've really fallen off the blogging bandwagon. I've had a really hard time finding the time to sit and type, download pictures, etc. without feeling guilty that I'm not doing things that are more physically obvious of productivity.
I also find it difficult to blog when Garrett is awake because it takes me twice as long to do anything, including typing, because he's either in some other room getting into trouble (which he probably is now since it's so quiet) or he's climbing on me, pulling all the clutter and other computer related stuff off the desk or some other dangerous thing.
I wanted to mention a few of the things that have happened since the last time I wrote...
Ethan apparently had a stomach bug because Savannah did the same thing a couple nights later...Only she was in bed and didn't quite make it to the bathroom. Bleh! The other two didn't get it though, thank goodness! A couple weeks later, however, Tanner got a cold, the next day Garrett got a fever and threw up once in the evening but thankfully just after arriving home from taking Savannah to tumbling. The next day he still had a fever and at dinner time Tanner suddenly started crying about his ear hurting. Off to the doc we went. TJ got an antibiotic and so did G since the doc thought that one of his ears could be infected and thought that was the cause of the fever and didn't think that it was stomach related. Wrong. He ended up with the runs for the next 4 days (this was different than antibiotic poop). Three days after the doc trip TJ ended up throwing up (several times) and was miserable for at least 36 hours but continued to not be up to par for a few more days. Lucky for S and E, they were saved the misery of this virus. We're all well now. *knock on wood*
The kids were off track from school when all the sickness happened but we did manage to go to the zoo the week before they went back. The weather was perfect. We started out with sweatshirts but by the time we left there was no need for them. It was clear, a little breezy, and about 60-65*. My kids (plus our neighbor girl) and myself met up with Laura, Chris and their girls since they were off-track too. We had a very enjoyable time and left after about 4 hours (including gift shop time).
This past Friday was our 11th wedding anniversary. We had decided earlier in the month that we needed to do something more than a few hours to a movie and dinner. The week beforehand we got it arranged to stay over-night at a bed and breakfast just over an hour away in Midway. It was a very nice place with lovely views of Heber Valley and Mt. Timpanogos. Unfortunately it's still so early in spring that nothing has greened up and the trees were all brown and bare. We were able to witness a couple getting married in the gazebo that jets out onto their pond/lake. They had no family or friends for the event (by choice apparently) and another guest couple of the B&B were the photographers. The nosey side of me wanted to know the story of why they were doing it that way.
After we checked out we took the scenic route to Park City and did some shopping, dining, and watched a movie. We made it back into town around early evening, went to Home Depot just to browse at things for finishing our basement, picked up some Jamba Juice and Famous Dave's BBQ and headed home to rescue my Mom from our kids. It was a lovely 24+ hours and it couldn't have happened without you Mom! Thanks!
The kids have survived their first week back on track. Next week it's early-out because of parent-teacher conferences. Then soon after they get a couple days off for Spring break.
Another thing that's been in the works is trying to finish our basement. I'm hoping that I can start blogging about this more frequently for my own sake. I really want to be able to look back and remember how things went. So far almost all of the walls are framed and we just had the heat runs/duct work done and a gas fireplace installed. In the works: cutting a hole in the foundation wall to install a new window which allows for a 3rd bdrm for the basement. Jon has dug most of the dirt out next to the house to place the window well. Also in the near future is getting the electrical done and getting the rough plumbing done enough to place the tub. All I know is that if all of our junk was out of the basement it would seem a lot more feasible to move quickly on all of these things.
Another big key factor is schedules. A lot of the work that's been done so far has been the work of my brother, Jason with Jon assisting him some of the time. Both of these guys have other work/jobs to keep them busy and, unfortunately, it is starting to be the busy season for both of them. I, myself, really don't have a lot of kid-free or even just quiet time to make necessary phone calls and go to the places I need to learn about what our options are for things. Let me give you a list of those places because I know you're just dying to know! Stone place for the stone around the fireplace. Cabinet/woodworking place for the tiny kitchenette cabinets, the fireplace mantel, and the bookshelves/cabinets on either side of the fireplace. The bathtub/wall surrounds place for the obvious. I'm sure there's even more places in the near future, I just don't know about them yet! I think the overall idea on completing the basement is to contract a lot of these things out even if it's to family members. I would even hire a babysitter so I could do some of the work (even just prep/cleanup) myself. (hint, hint)
I started this post at about 10:30 this morning and it is now 3:10 p.m. This is exactly why I haven't been posting. Granted, this one was quite long to catch up, however, even if it was fewer words but with pictures it would have taken me just as long. I don't know how other bloggers can post frequently (and with pictures!) plus take time to read several blogs and feel like they're not slacking. Are there any? AND I always feel like my posts are just blah, blah, blah, no witty, catchy, phrasing to really make it worth a readers' time, so if you've made it this far, thanks and sorry at the same time. :D
